Evaluation

My assignment was to get a clip from YouTube ( Tom & Jerry ) and then take the SFX’s from the  clip and then decipher the sounds effects and then add your own recorded sounds and some off the internet; I used a really helpful website called www.SFXNOW.com and www.SFX.com and www.google .com and searched free sound effects.

I personally thought my 2 minutes of recreated sound effects for Tom & Jerry video  works really well. There all in sync which gives a running flow to the video.

I had to recreated eating effects shouting, squeaking and blow off effects , I thought this assignment was really good because your trying to create a new sounds to fit into  another video and when you see the final piece its really satisfying. I used a lot of sounds from the internet and half recorded myself, I used adobe to import all my SFX’s and the video.

They way i recorded my own sounds was using Garage Band on my Mac Pro and also using a Sony Voice recorder, i thought they both worked really well because you could be a quite room and the quality of the sound is really good.
I was really please with my video and would love to do the assignment again but on another video. If I had the chance to do this again I would use more unique effects to make the video look more entertaining and enjoyable to watch.

Preparing to work with sound effects SFX's

1. The reason why we use SFX's in TV & Film productions is because we want to make stuff more excitable to watch for example HollyWood films use SFX is car explosions and car crashes to make the scene have a big impact from watching it from the screen, they also use gun shots and fire sounds to make it more intense. TV use SFX to make more sounds realistic for example a Soap programmes might add in a car skids SFX to emphasise the car skidding in motion.
2.Advantages; Cheaper, making something that has no sound to making something special and captures alot of viewers. They add more SFX's make the view feel more in-depth with the film or Tv programme.
3. Disadvantages; knowing that scene has been adding with SFX which makes it unrealistic,  it doesnt work in some scenes , sometimes its overused and doesn't seem to work with scenes and your can see some lip-sync erros.
4.
Foley Artist
Foley Artists create foley sound effects. Foley Artists use a variety of objects to create the sounds of footsteps and other incidental noises in a film.

An example of a well known foley artist is Monique Reymond who has work with the programme Gossip Girl,The film Anger Management and Drag me to hell. A Link to ther IMDB http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0721472/

Evaluation

Overall i thought the new retake was much better because we could discuss the areas that needed to be re taken to show how to prevent the problems, we also tried other positions for the mic we we all agreed like an good arms length away because otherwise it would be muffled.

I leraned that using different location you have to alter your sound and camera exposure to a clean shot, when outside it is best to use a microphone cover to provent the wind making a muffeled fuzzy sound through the mic

we had some problems in the toilets because you had people walking in most of the time and we had to stop filming and it was annoying sometimes but we waited and then carried on. also during the filming i liked how we all came up with different locations and spoke upon  the issues we could make and then rectify them.

I found this assignment really good and i felt like it was an exciting task.As a group we all sat down and watched the footage and wrote down the scenes where we could retake and show examples of how that shot was rectified.
we worked really well as a group because we has fixed roles and we stuck to them; Aaron- camera man Mitch - sound operator Adam - presenter Melv - presenter .

Reviewing new footage clean

Retake 1
Inside - class room: We filmed a part of our news story in a class room at college. This went very well and we didn't experience any problems with filming in this location. The sound came out perfect and there was no visual problems with it either.

Retake 2
Outside - car park: For our news story we also filmed in a car park for the outside shots. We changed the position of the mic which no wind could make it muffled and we also change the position of the camera because last time we filmed it and the tripod wasnt in shot where as before it was.

Retake 3
Noisy - toilet: We also filmed in the college toilets for our news story. we positioned the mic closer to the presenters and we discovered that the lights made a quite humming sound but we managed to make the humming sound less obvious, we positioned the mic more lower so it couldnt pick up the sound and we also turned our phones off.

Reviewing our footage

Inside - class room: We filmed a part of our news story in a class room at college. This went very well and we didn't experience any problems with filming in this location. The sound came out perfect and there was no visual problems with it either.

Outside - car park: For our news story we also filmed in a car park for the outside shots. We did experience some problems in this location as the car was facing the sun so the shadow of the camera and tripod on the bonnet of the car. The sound was fine in the car as well as we positioned the mic in the car.

Noisy - toilet: We also filmed in the college toilets for our news story. In this location the visuals were fine but we experienced problems with the audio. When we uploaded our footage the was no sound for this part of the news story.

Preparing to shoot on location

1 & 2
I  think its very important to plan out your idea before filming because the weather for a start is very unpredictable also you even might need filming permission to film in your location, with audio you would need a mic over because if its windy it would sound terrible and very scratchy.

This is a clip i have found off Youtube that indicates these easy errors or misjudgements happening live and no time for retakes.
